Our Cellars
Two territories. A unique great project.
As of today the property comprises approximately 160 hectares of vineyards, divided into two different estates: the first one is Pianetto, located in Santa Cristina Gela close to Palermo, and the second one is Baroni located near Noto in province of Siracusa. The Count Marzotto chose these lands because located in various microclimatic zones: from the altitude of mounts, to the proximity of sea where cherished by marine breeze. Their position, ideal in terms of thermal excursion, rainfall and exposure, offers the opportunity
to produce peculiar wines of balanced flavours and pleasantness. For this reason, it has been decided to cultivate various indigenous grape varieties as well as classic international ones, and constantly seeking the best relationship between the territory and the nature of vines. Besides the complete line of 14 wines, Baglio di Pianetto also produces 2 extra virgin olive oil, derived from: Biancolilla and Cerasuola olive trees varieties cultivated in Pianetto’s estate, and Moresca and Verdella species, cultivated in Baroni’s estate.
Taking advantage of its geographic position and ideal microclimate, Pianetto has revealed to be the perfect place to build the Baglio di Pianetto main wine cellar.
Characteristics of the estate: 20 km away from Palermo, Pianetto has vineyards located between 550 and 650 meters of altitude, with slopes ranging between 10 and 20%.
DOC Zone: DOC Monreale.
He: The land extends approximately 88 hectares, of which 40 producing, 25 scheduled for future implanting
and 3 employed to olive trees grove.
Varieties of wine: Insolia, Catarratto, Muller Thurgau, Sauvignon and Viognier for white wine. Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon for red wine.
Production techniques: The wine cellar is organised on 4 levels: here the grapes are cooled down, separated from the bunch and pressed, then the wine produced merges into specially made stainless steel tanks. At the end of its fermentation, the wine is let to refine in 225 litres barriques made of oak of Allier.
Baroni is a mild climate area characterised by poor soil and stony lands and in light declivity. On this kind of ground grapevines find an ideal environment to grow optimally.
Characteristics of the estate: Baroni is constituted by vines located 50 meters above the sea level and it’s only 5 km away from Capo Passero (Siracusa).
DOC Zone: DOC Eloro.
He: The total surface is 70 hectares of which 39 are cultivated land while the remaining part is still under
development, to reach a total surface of approximately 65 cultivated hectares.
Varieties of wine: Nero d’Avola and Syrah for red wine, Moscato di Noto for white wine.
Production techniques: In order to maintain the wine characteristics, it has been created, in Baroni estate, a dedicated wine cellar where we cool down the grapes as soon as gathered and before they are turned into wine. Once this procedure ends, the wine is sent to Pianetto for further manufacturing and final works.
